TURKISH TOURISM SET TO INCREASE

Visitor numbers in Turkey are likely to increase as a result of an airport reopening, according to a local official.

Zeki Sanal, governor of Sinop, told the Dogan News Agency that the local tourist sector was likely to benefit from the airport, which has been shut since 2002.

News that the facility will be reopened next year could also be of interest to overseas property investors, as demand for rental accommodation is likely to increase if there is a significant influx of visitors.

Alternatively, some visitors may consider the area a good location for a holiday home.

Commenting on the latest developments at the facility, Mr Sanal said: "The renovation process is continuing. It will be completed within a short time."

He added that reopening the airport was "very important" to authorities in the region, as driving economic development was one of their main priorities.

The Sun newspaper recently stated that Turkey could be a more lucrative investment option than the UK, since the British housing market was "falling flat".
