The Almería coast is as varied as it is unspoilt. The rugged coastline of the Cabo de Gata to the east of the city is sparsely populated, with just a few villages. Exploring its coves, many of which can only be reached on foot, is great fun. West of Almería are the resorts of Roquetas de Mar and Aguadulce, full of modern facilities. The naturist beaches of Vera are to the north, near to the pretty hillside white village of Mojácar, which successfully blends the beach holiday concept with old Spain. The complex of Almerimar to the west - with its marinas and great golf - is an attractive up-and-coming region, and the traditional fishing port of Adra, a little further west, boasts an interesting castle and many archeological remains. The Alcazaba castle in the city of Almería itself is also worth a visit.
