Second home buyers have been advised to look at a largely overlooked part of central Portugal.

Second home buyers pointed towards Portugal

The Alentejo region was flagged up as a good location for foreign visitors by ShelterOffshore.com, as it is less crowded than the Algarve.

This means it could be a good place for people who want to enjoy Portugal's natural attractions and escape the crowds of holidaymakers.

ShelterOffshore.com highlighted a number of attractions that Alentejo has to offer, including relatively cheap property prices.

The area was also said to offer dramatic and diverse locations that suits everybody's tastes.

Commenting on the region, the website remarked: "Alentejo has so much charm and appeal, it really is worth closer inspection."

ShelterOffshore.com added that the area also has a number of good-quality houses for sale along its "stunning" coastline.

This comes after the Irish Independent praised Portugal for being free of "unsightly overdevelopment".
