NEW ROUTE INTO PORTUGAL ANNOUNCED

A new route for tourists will be provided in Lisbon, Portugal, following the announcement of plans by the government to build a new airport on the south bank of the Tagnus river.

The international airport is expected to be completed by 2017 to cater for an anticipated increase in passenger traffic in the years to come, reports Reuters.

Improved transport infrastructure and access into Lisbon may benefit those with overseas property in Portugal given that higher levels of tourism in the country may push up house prices.

Commenting on plans for the new airport which will reportedly cost up to €4.9 billion (£3.7 billion), Santander chief economist Rui Constantino said: "The works will have a positive impact on the economy, with more employment and economic growth."

The silver coast area close to Lisbon is considered by personal finance website SaveBorrowSpend to offer bargain prices for offshore property investors on beachside developments.
