More consumers from the West Midlands are set to travel abroad following the launch of new flights from the region.

Flights set to attract West Midlands people overseas

Low-cost airline Ryanair will offer direct flights to a number of major European destinations from Birmingham International Airport.

This means that countries including Spain, Portugal, Italy and France will be much more accessible to people living in the immediate area.

Ryanair will also offer flights to several eastern European destinations, potentially boosting tourism in this area.

The major of roll-out of flights reflects the continued demand for travel to these countries, a factor that could prove to be of interest to foreign property investors.

Michael O'Leary, chief executive of Ryanair, said that people in Birmingham would welcome the new services, as they had been "woefully under-served" by airlines in the past.

Peter Vella, business development director at the airport, added that the opening of a new base in the region was "great news" for local consumers.
