What to See and Do in Albufeira
Portugal’s historically intricate intertwining of culture and religion is no less evident in this tourist resort. Guia is a village with a rich history. Its Main Church features architectural styles of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Guia is a typical baroque building dating back to the 16th century. Lagoa dos Salgados presents a typical lakeland, and is a superb spot for birdwatching. The Castle is built on a spur of rock near the Quarteira Creek. Inhabited until the 14th century, it contains the ruins of the hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Assuncao (Our Lady of Assumption).
Besides what the natural surrounds have to offer, children are more than adequately provided for by a range of carefully planned family activities.
Six kilometres north of Albufeira is Zoo Marine, a beautiful marine park with rides, swimming pools, dolphin and sea lion shows and a 4-D cinema.
Just north of the city centre is Aqualand, the biggest water park on the Algarve. It features the highest ride in Portugal.
