Shopping in the Algarve
Algarvian shopping is a colourful blend of shops, roadside stalls and craft markets.
The best shopping town is Portimao, which offers shoppers both size and variety. In summer, the major resorts feature mini roadside markets where one can buy jewellery, handicrafts, clothes and arts. Hand-knit jerseys - the must-have Algarvian purchase - are available throughout the region. Quarteira, which is adjacent to Vilamoura, is one of the biggest markets. It is open on Wednesdays.
The food market has become something of an institution in the Algarve. Usually open from 8 til 2 daily, the markets offer a wide variety of produce and goods for sale, enabling one to experience Portuguese cuisine by one’s own hand!
