Introduction to Alvor
Known for its characteristic maze of streets, lanes and alleys, Alvor is an ancient port town and one of the Algarve’s finest examples of an Arab village. Although it is now a very popular holiday destination, the narrow streets have kept development to a minimum. While many streets throng with bars and restaurants, the alleyways of the much older fishing village remain intact.
The main street for restaurants and bars is Rua Dr Frederico Romas Mendes. It leads down to a riverside square with its own fish market and restaurants. This is the ideal spot for a laid-back lunch in the “real” Alvor.
