RETIREES 'CHOOSE TO LIVE IN SPAIN'
Friday, 14 Sep 2007
Retirees who want to relocate abroad are mainly opting to move to Spain, according to experts.
Saga Overseas Homes stated that Spain was popular among older people as it was reasonably priced and very accessible from the UK.
Chris Simmonds, managing director of the firm, told Homes Worldwide that the country was better value for money than Britain, despite it also experiencing a property boom in recent years.
He commented: "Many people are finding that their money still goes a lot further on the Mediterranean coast and they can have a new and idyllic home in the sun."
Mr Simmonds added that reduced journey times on cheap airlines had also contributed to the popularity of the country, partly because friends and family back in Britain were still in relatively easy reach.
Earlier this week, research by Alliance & Leicester found that many people living abroad used the internet to contact people at home on a daily basis.
