EXPATS 'CONTACT FAMILY WITH INTERNET'
Thursday, 13 Sep 2007
People living abroad are choosing to contact people at home via the internet, according to new research.
A study by Alliance & Leicester found the internet was used as many people's primary means of contacting friends and relatives back in the UK.
The research also showed that the internet was also used for other purposes, such as reading news portals and looking after finances.
Almost three-quarters of those living overseas were found to communicate with their country of origin every day, with some spending at least an hour online.
The company said: "They can easily email friends, catch up with current events and save their wages in one stress-free sitting."
This comes alongside comments from Emerging Real Estate, which said the internet would be a useful resource for investors to get information on their proposed destination in advance.
The firm said that the growth of the internet as a means of conveying information had made investors better informed.
