What to See in Tetouan
Tetouan’s medina has been declared a World Heritage Site, and has a distinctly old world feel. It is very straightforward, but also one of Morocco’s most busy and interesting medinas. There is a very active Jewish quarter and ancient fountains whose flow has never ceased. Stalls are randomly dispersed through the medina. On offer are clothes, carpets, crafts and food.
The Place Loulay el Mehdi forms the city’s centrepoint, and is a large plaza lined with restaurants and cafes.
Place Hassan II is the quaint open square near the Royal Palace.
Tetouan has its own Archaeology Museum. It contains an impressive collection of Roman mosaics, pottery and other artifacts.
The Museum of Moroccan Arts offers free admission, and houses a miscellany of exhibits from traditional Moroccan costumes to weapons.
One may observe craftsmen at work on tiles and embroidery at the Artisan School.
