Day Trips from Tangier
Cap Spartel, the African continent’s most extreme northwest corner, is within quick reach. The area lies atop a rocky coast. At the summit stands a large lighthouse offering dramatic views of the meeting point of the Mediterranean and Atlantic waters.
The Caves of Hercules lie 5 km to the south. The caves are known for their window-like opening in the shape of Africa, and feature an excellent viewing platform.
In close proximity are the ruins of the 3rd century Roman town of Cotta. The remains include the foundations of buildings, baths and villas.
The fishing village of Asilah lies to the south of Tangier. It has a beautiful beach, and offers the tourist a picturesque 15th century Andalusian medina and several excellent seafood restaurants. The village is accessible from Tangier by train.
Chefchaouen, a beautiful medieval town, is a short drive from Tangier. The medina of the town is considered by many to be one of the most charming in Morocco.
There are also regular ferry services to Spain. The journey takes less than an hour.
