GERMAN MARKET 'ATTRACTIVE'

Property in Germany is an attractive proposition for buyers because it has not kept pace with property growth in the rest of Europe and holds more potential now.

That's according to website Your Mortgage editor Paula John, who notes that more and more people are looking abroad for property investment.

She explained: "The rest of western Europe has seen price booms in the same sort of region as the UK, with the exception of Germany where property prices have actually fallen in the last decade in real terms.

"So Germany is still looking quite attractive but I don't know how many people actually know about that."

Her comments come at a time when first-time buyers are struggling to get a foot on the property ladder. High UK house prices and increasing interest rates is making it very hard for young buyers to make mortgage repayments and overseas markets are becoming more attractive.

Rhiannon Williamson of Amberlamb also believes that Germany holds potential for British buyers, adding that Berlin and Munich both rate as top cities for those looking to rent out their new house.

"Germany is quite simply a great place to invest for those seeking rental income," she said. "This is simply because Germans like to rent houses."
