Berlin
Germany's capital city is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating parts of Europe, with a plethora of cultural attractions and a friendly, cosmopolitan feel.
Based at the heart of the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region, Berlin is Europe's second most populous city and this has a lot to do with its dynamic atmosphere and reputation for 24-hour activity.
It is the third most-visited destination in the EU and many of those who holiday here spend their time exploring the museums, theatres and galleries. There are 153 museums in all, including the Jewish Museum, the Gemaldegalerie and the Deutsches Historisches Museum.
The property market in Berlin has been slow for many years, with house price inflation well below many comparable cities elsewhere in Europe. There are signs that this situation is changing, however, partly due to external investment following the successful 2006 World Cup.
Thanks to the S-Bahn metro system, getting around Berlin is extremely easy and this can only help the city's development. Its reputation is also boosted by the presence of four universities, all of which are highly-ranked educative centres.
