PROPERTY BUYER PRAISES FRENCH PURCHASE

A British property investor has spoken of his positive experience when buying a second home in France.

Greg Dawson, who lives in Surrey, bought a bungalow in Bergerac at a price of £90,000 in early 2006.

Speaking to the Telegraph, he revealed that as a result of various home improvements, the property is now worth more than £120,000.

Mr Dawson stated that after his offer was accepted, he was able to pay ten per cent of the house price in deposit.

He commented: "This takes the stress out of it, as in the UK you can make an offer but right up to exchange you are never guaranteed it will all go through."

Mr Dawson added that overall, the process from making an offer to taking possession of the property took about three months.

France's appeal to overseas property buyers was recently enhanced by Eurostar's new high-speed service to Paris, which allows passengers to travel from London to the city in only two hours and 15 minutes.
