Introduction to the Red Sea Coast
The Red Sea Coast stretches from the Gulf of Suez in the north to the Sudanese border in the south. The area’s name derives from its mineral-rich red mountains, whose reflection on the water gave rise to the name “Mare Rostrum” (Red Sea).
The Red Sea Coast is Egypt’s fastest growing area and is popular for its warm year-round climate and its clear waters. Indeed, it presents nothing less than an underwater wonderland. Home to over 800 species of fish, vibrant corals and lush plant life, the waters offer some of the best diving and fishing opportunities in the world.
The major centres along the Red Sea Coast are Hurghada, Suez, Zafarana, El Gouna, Mersa Alam, Berenice, Safaga and Ain Sukhana.
