History of Sahl Hasheesh
The Egyptian Company for Tourist Communities was established as a LE700 million capital joint venture, in which the National Bank of Egypt, together with a number of investors in tourism field, is taking part.
The aspired-for project has been tailored to be implemented in three phases; the first phase was to commence running in the Egyptian tourist season of the year 2000. It will occupy an area of 6 million sq. meters, comprising some 3330 rooms and near 1910 housing units taking the shape of apartments and villas. The LE 1435-cost-first phase, however, will provide 8000 job opportunities, and the conceived tourist increase may well hit the 2 million mark.
As for the second phase, it will be established in an area of 6 million m², as it will include 2190 rooms, 3517 housing units, creating 11500 job opportunities. The LE 1640-cost-second phase is expected to maintain good climate with the aim of attaining 2.5 million tourist nights.
As regards the third phase, it will harbour 360 rooms along with 4912 housing units. It was schemed to be built on an area of 20 million m², a new atmosphere that provides some 14800 job opportunities.
The first phase is well underway, as it was designed to comprise an array of hotels, in addition to a marine in which to harbour yachts… Three hundreds cabins are to be established along with three grand malls, diving centres and theatres.
As a part of the second phase, and in addition to the resorts, a cluster of villas and trade communities will be established, 22 per cent of which will be offered as tourist housing.
Keeping abreast of the international competition, and going in line with fashion, distinguished designs were observed while mapping out prospected-decoration styles. Styles incorporated flash back to Bedouin tang, Islamic architecture and the Roman-like city in Alexandria. Not to mention, a number of spas and resorts for serving therapeutic tourism purposes.
