CYPRUS 'WOULD BE A GOOD EXPAT LOCATION'
Friday, 18 Jan 2008
Britons who want to move abroad have been advised to consider setting up home in Cyprus.
The Mediterranean island was recommended by the Telegraph because of attractions such as the good weather, as it has more than 300 days of sunshine a year.
In addition, the newspaper said that English was widely spoken across the country, thereby making it fairly easy for expatriates to fit into a community.
The culture shock of living abroad was said to be reduced even further by factors such as having to drive on the left, as is the case in the UK.
A number of financial benefits were also highlighted by the publication, such as tax breaks to pensioners, even if they have stopped working before the mandatory retirement age.
The Telegraph added: "A stable currency and no inheritance tax makes Cyprus a popular place for Britons to retire."
Cyprus became a member of the single European currency earlier this month.
