CYPRUS 'IS AS POPULAR AS EVER'

Cyprus is continuing to attract a considerable number of people from the UK each year, travel experts have revealed.

According to Thomas Cook, the Mediterranean island is proving to be as "popular as ever" with British holidaymakers.

The firm said the guarantee of sunshine in Cyprus is one of its main selling points, along with its overall affordability.

Thomas Cook added that the island is increasingly attracting couples who want to get married overseas.

Commenting on its appeal, the company said: "The country offers renowned hospitality and none of the legal marriage complexities that exist at other destinations."

However, it reminded visitors that since Cyprus has recently become a member of the euro, anyone with leftover pound notes and coins would need to convert their money into the new currency relatively soon.

Both pounds and euros were in dual circulation for four weeks after the transition on New Year's Day.

However, only the new currency can now be used in any transaction following the January 31st deadline.
