CHEAP FLIGHTS 'COULD BOOST TOURISM IN CYPRUS'

Tourist numbers in Cyprus could be set to increase as a result of the roll-out of new flights to the island.

Budget air carrier Jet2.com will fly between Leeds Bradford International Airport and Paphos twice a week.

As well as being likely to boost tourism and interest in the Cypriot property market, the move represents another step forward for the regional aviation industry.

Jet2.com said the flights should "significantly" raise the profile of Leeds Bradford International Airport and boost accessibility of foreign countries to people in the area.

Ed Anderson, managing director of Leeds Bradford International Airport, commented: "It represents the largest number of new routes ever added to the airport's portfolio in a single announcement."

He added that the airport now offered a "superb" range of choices to business and leisure travellers wishing to fly from their local airport.

This comes after Obelisk International said that routes offered by low-cost airlines could indicate future investment hotspots.
