Day Trips from Paphos Town
Kouklia village lies 14 km east of Paphos. The famous Temple of Aphrodite, originally built in the 12th century BC, was one of the most important places of pilgrimage of the ancient Greek world. There is also a museum, whose exhibits comprise impressive finds from the area.
Petra Tou Romiou, 25 km east of Paphos, is the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite. It is a beautiful spot, with spectacular sea views.
Peyia Village provides a superb day trip for history enthusiasts. In addition to its ruins of two early Christian basilicas and the ancient fountains on its village square, there are Roman rock-hewn tombs above the sea. Peyia is situated 19 km to the north west of Paphos.
The popular holiday resort of Polis offers beautiful beaches, breathtaking scenery and impressive historical sites. It is 37 km north of Paphos.
The Akamas Peninsula lies adjacent to Polis, and is a natural wonderland of fauna, flora and unique rock formations. It also contains the legendary Baths of Aphrodite, where the goddess is believed to have performed her mythical cleansing rituals. There are superb hiking trails and beautiful views.
