Kolossi Castle lies 14 km west of Limassol and provides a fine example of military architecture. The castle was originally built in the 13th century, and was later expanded. It once served as the Grand Commandery of the Knights Templar.
The town of Kourion is located slightly further to the west. The site of an ancient city kingdom, it boasts some of the most fascinating archaeological finds on the island. Its ruins include the now restored Graeco-Roman Theatre, a popular venue for musical and theatrical performances today, the Stadium, the Nymphaeum and the House of the Gladiators.
Amathus is another spot of great historical value. Also the location of an ancient city kingdom, its archaeological sites are extensive and excavation is still underway. Amathus lies 11 km to the east of Limassol.
The Ayios Georios Alamanou Convent is situated just off the Nicosia-Limassol road, some 20 km from Limassol. Originally built in the 12th century, the building still serves as a convent today.
