Tuesday, 19 Feb 2008
An expatriate from the UK has spoken positively of his new life in Canada.
Christopher Sheriff moved to the north American country with his wife back in 2000 following a number of years in the Armed Forces.
He told the Independent that after leaving the military and studying for a degree, he wanted to move abroad and was strongly drawn to Canada.
Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Sheriff said the country "ticked a lot of boxes", such as offering space, beauty and a reasonable cost of living.
He also stated that the property-buying system in Canada was very easy and protected the interests of the buyer.
Mr Sheriff commented: "A contract's written at the start of the transaction, there's no gazumping, no cancelling the sale or purchase. Everything is straightforward."
In addition, he said the country offered safety and security, especially as it not been involved in any international wars.
This follows research from HiFX which revealed that the overall level of interest in moving to another country went up by almost a quarter in 2007.
