Bulgaria's Black Sea Coast
Often referred to as Bulgaria's Costa del Sol, the Black Sea Coast is one of the country's greatest assets, with sensational beaches and a decent infrastructure for future growth.
The Black Sea resorts have been attracting holidaymakers and tourists for many years and Bulgaria's accession to the EU in January 2007 has only intensified foreign interest in this part of the world.
Much cheaper than its Spanish alternative, the Black Sea Coast can be equally scenic and the bathing conditions are often excellent.
Summer temperatures are regularly in the high 20s and low 30s and the sea tends to be as warm as 25 degrees centigrade. It is a factor that has persuaded hundreds of foreigners to purchase holiday homes in the region and many more are expected to follow suit in the years ahead.
Airports in Varna and Burgas make access to the Black Sea Coast extremely easy and tourism in the region has been boosted in recent years by the number of low-cost flights on offer.
Like its ski resorts, Bulgaria's beach areas are still a work in progress and it is likely to be a while before the Black Sea Coast can genuinely compete with alternatives in the likes of Spain, Italy and Cyprus.
